Upgraded Facilities on the way for the Great Western Pavilion

The Andrews Labor Government is partnering with the Northern Grampians Shire Council and the local community to upgrade the Great Western Pavilion.

Member for Western Victoria, Jaala Pulford today announced that the Victorian Budget 2022/23 will invest $1.5 million towards the upgrade which will:

  • Refurbish the existing function room, canteen/kitchen, and accessible public toilets.
  • Extend and update the function room area.
  • Provide suitable changerooms for players and umpires.
  • Construct a trainers’ and medical room, and a gym.
  • Extend the pavilion to provide storage rooms, administration areas, and an undercover area for spectators.

Once complete the project will allow for the Great Western Football and Netball Club to further build their membership, participation in training and competitions, and development programs.

Investments like these in our community facilities create jobs, boost local economies, level the playing field, and help community clubs grow – while also encouraging Victorians to get active and stay healthy.

The recent Victorian Budget takes the Government’s investment in community sport and recreation infrastructure to more than $1.2 billion since 2014.

Quotes attributable to Member for Western Victoria, Jaala Pulford:

“The Andrews Labor government understands that country football and netball is the lifeblood of regional communities, and that’s why we’re backing more projects in towns where they’re needed most.”

Quote attributable to Minister for Community Sport, Ros Spence:

“Community sport brings communities together, it nurtures social connections, and it’s where future champions will begin their journey. This funding will deliver the modern facilities needed to support and enable that success.”

Quote attributable to spokesperson for the Northern Grampians, Clr. Murray Emerson:

“This funding has significantly accelerated the project beyond the initial concept design phase and Council would now be able to start formalising the design and construction of the clubrooms with stakeholders.”

“It is very gratifying to know that all our hard work advocating for this clubroom redevelopment has been acknowledged by the Victorian Government through their investment.

Thanks to the Sport and Recreation Victoria funding we can now push ahead to make this long overdue pavilion upgrade a reality for Great Western sporting groups and something the whole community can be proud of.”
