Winton Motor Raceway To Drive Benalla’s Tourism Economy

Victoria’s premier regional motorway was today opened by Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes in Benalla.

Ms Symes joined members of the Benalla Auto Club to celebrate the completion of track upgrades and safety improvements at the Winton Motor Raceway.

In Benalla today representing the Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford, Ms Symes said the improved track will support 59 full time jobs and help grow the visitor economy.

The track improvements are expected to increase the value of tourism to the Benalla economy by $10 million per annum, from $35 million to $45 million, and patronage of the Raceway is expected to increase by up to 40 per cent by year five of operations.

With the upgrade complete, Winton Motor Raceway retains its Confederation of Australian Motor Sports licence and is positioned to meet the standards of the Federation Internationale De l’Automobile and the Australian Auto Sport alliance.

The Andrews Labor Government partnered with Benalla Auto Club to deliver this project in very tight timelines, which will enable Winton Motor Raceway to host the V8 Supercars in May and attract a range of major events such as the Porsche Carrera Cup and Australian Superbikes.

During the construction phase, the project injected more than $3 million into the local economy.

The Labor Government provided $1 million towards the project from the $500 million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund.
