Getting On With Regional Partnerships In Wimmera Southern Mallee
Following the launch of Victoria’s Regional Statement, the Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford today met with community leaders, business and local government in Horsham at a Regional Partnerships Stakeholder Forum.
The discussions focused on the centrepiece of the Statement, the establishment of nine new Regional Partnerships to direct local priorities straight into the heart of State Government decision-making.
A Wimmera Southern Mallee Regional Partnership will be established with each of the following local councils invited to participate:
- Hindmarsh Shire
- Horsham Rural City
- Northern Grampians Shire
- West Wimmera Shire
- Yarriambiack Shire
The Andrews Labor Government recognises that each region is different, and will ensure decisions and investments reflect the priorities of local families, workers and businesses, giving a real voice to regional Victorian communities.
The Partnerships will build on the work of existing regional leadership and advocacy groups, looking at the strategic priorities communities have identified– across economic, social and environmental issues – and oversee implementation of the top priorities.
These will be published, fed into a new Rural and Regional Ministerial Committee, and Partnerships will be publicly accountable for getting things done.
Victoria’s Regional Statement is available online at www.regions.vic.gov.au.

“We understand that every region is different. We also know that regional communities have their own character, their own aspirations, and their own common sense understanding of the challenges and opportunities that they face.”
