Coalition MPs have voted to slash even more funding from schools and education services in Western Victoria by opposing Labor’s call for the Baillieu Government to rule out making further cuts in the 2013 State Budget.

In the Legislative Council last week Nationals MP David O’Brien and Liberal MPs Simon Ramsay and David Koch voted against a Labor Opposition call for the Premier to guarantee no further cuts to education and skills in Hamilton.

Speaking in parliament last week, Jaala Pulford said “we call on government members to stand up in the party room, to hold the line around the table in the cabinet room and to stop the cuts in education” so that Hamilton’s children can have the kind of start
to their education that they deserve.

Ms Pulford called for the Government “to put this matter high on the list in its budget deliberations.”

“Young people in Hamilton are missing out on education and training opportunities. Families and schools are under unprecedented financial pressure to provide the necessities for a good education”, Ms Pulford said.

“We know this because they are telling us that. They are telling Mr O’Brien, Mr Ramsay and Mr Koch that. But do they care?”

Ms Pulford said that all children were entitled to quality education and called on Coalition members for Western Victoria Simon Ramsay, David Koch and David O’Brien, to stand up for kids in the communities they represent.
